This year's final Mountain Entertainment Group for the Arts' Texas Musicians series brings The Imperial Starlighters to Sacred Grounds this coming Friday and Saturday. The Imperial Starlighters, from Austin Texas, is a Four Man Vocal Group backed by a Five Piece Dance Band. They are as close to a Las Vegas-style show as we've ever had at Sacred Grounds-and may ever have!. They are coming to Sacred Grounds Coffee and Tea House Oct. 5,  & 6 for two Dyn-o-mite shows. The Starlighters specialize in Doo-Wop, Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Beach Music and some oddball styles. They do songs from Five Royales, Bo Diddley, Ikettes, Dion and the Belmonts, Chuck Berry, The Falcons, Isley Brothers, Du Droppers and many more in that early Rock-N-Roll style with a little bit of Ska and Rocksteady thrown in. The front singers are Larry Lange [who shared the stage for many years with Delbert McClinton and our own Dave Millsap, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie, Waylon and others too numerous to name], Spencer Thomas [from The Solid Senders and owner of the Texas Pie Co. in Kyle, Tx.], George Brainard [who has a pro photography studio and years of playing in local Austin bands], And Jerome Becker [who works with an engineering firm and also is a killer Drummer as well as a great singer]. We have Grady ‘Guitar’ Pinkerton on the six-strings, Lynn Davis on bass, Rolf Ordahl on keyboards, and Brad Andrew on that Texas Tenor Saxophone, and Darin Lange on drums. In Austin, Rebecca and I were big Larry Lange fans and attended many of his performances through the years when he headed up a group called Larry Lange and the Lonely Knights. We have not heard him in his new ensemble but we are eagerly anticipating his new style--and believe me, he does have a unique style! Our advice is to get tickets to the Friday night show 'cause once you see and hear them, you'll want another shot so you can then do Saturday night.
